제주는 이미 ‘아열대 기후’…생태계파괴 심각

지구 온난화에 따라 제주도가 아열대화 기후로 변하는 등 생태계 변화가 심상치 않은 것으로 나타났다.
11일 환경부와 제주지방기상청 등에 따르면 제주도의 연평균 기온은 1924년부터 2004년까지 매년 평균 0.02도 증가하는 추세를 보이고 있다. 80년 이후에는 매년 0.05도 증가해 전체적으로는 지난 80년간 기온이 약 1.6도 상승했으며 지난 30년간 겨울은 24일 감소했다.
국립수산과학원에 따르면 최근 30년간 제주바다의 수온이 0.8도 상승해 아열대 남방계 어류가 출몰하고 있으며 해저에서는 석회조류로 덮이는 갯녹음 현상이 심해지면서 해조류가 없어져 소라, 성게, 전복이 감소하고 있다. 지난 한해 동안 제주도에 갈색얼가니새, 밤색날개뻐꾸기 등 열대성 조류도 관찰되고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
해발고도에 따라 아열대·온대·냉대 등 1800여종의 고산식물이 수직적 산림대를 이뤘던 한라산은 온대성 소나무숲이 기온상승에 따라 한대성인 구상나무 숲에 침투하면서 세계 유일의 순수 구상나무 숲 면적이 감소하고 있다. 또 대나무의 일종인 제주조릿대는 20여년전 해발 600∼1400ｍ에서 자생했으나 지금은 고산지대까지 침투해 한대성 고산식물인 시로미를 고사시키고 있다.
강수 일수와 강수량 패턴도 변하는 것으로 확인됐다. 강수량별 발생 빈도를 조사한 결과 연간 호우 일수 발생빈도는 30년대 연 2.0일에서 90년 연 3.1일로 증가 추세다. 환경부는 "제주지역 해수면의 높이가 지난 30여년간 22㎝나 오른 것은 기후변화가 얼마나 심각한지 보여준다"고 설명했다.
제주도는 이날 환경부와 '기후변화 대응 시범도' 조성을 위한 협약을 체결했다.
